Anatoly Karpov is a Russian chess grandmaster who was the twelfth undisputed World Chess Champion from 1975 to 1985 and also held the FIDE World Championship in 1993, 1996 and 1998. He reached a peak Elo rating of 2780 in 1994 and spent 102 total months ranked world number one, the third longest span of all time, and he won six Chess Olympiad golds with the USSR team and became the first World Rapid Chess Champion in 1988.
