Cycling Disciplines

Amy Pieters (born 1991) is a Dutch professional road and track cyclist who has ridden for the UCI Women's WorldTeam Team SD Worx-Protime. She was a member of the Dutch squad that finished sixth in the team pursuit at the 2012 Summer Olympics, alongside Ellen van Dijk, Kirsten Wild and Vera Koedooder. In December 2021 she suffered a serious fall during a training ride near Alicante with the Dutch national track team, was placed in an induced coma and underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on her brain. After returning to the Netherlands she regained consciousness in April 2022 and took her first steps since the fall in October 2022 at a neuro-rehabilitation centre. The source reports that she can walk again but has only short-term memory and limited speech, and that she lived in an adapted apartment in Amersfoort as of January 2025.
