Amon Simutowe is a Zambian chess grandmaster born January 6, 1982, historically significant as the first grandmaster from sub-Saharan Africa and the third Black chess grandmaster overall, after Maurice Ashley and Pontus Carlsson. He earned the Grandmaster title in 2009 and reached a peak FIDE rating of 2486 that same year, while also completing a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Master of Science in Economics for Development from Oxford University.
