Connor Andrew McDavid is a Canadian ice hockey centre born January 13, 1997, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. Selected first overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, he became the youngest captain in NHL history at nineteen and has won six Art Ross Trophies as the league's leading scorer and three Hart Memorial Trophies as most valuable player. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 2024 despite Edmonton losing the Stanley Cup Final, and has won a joint record five Ted Lindsay Awards as the players' choice for most outstanding player.

Hockey Canada granted him exceptional player status after evaluating his athleticism and maturity.
He applied for exceptional player status through Hockey Canada and passed evaluations of his athleticism, academics and maturity. That allowed him to enter the junior hockey draft at 15 rather than 16. He was only the third Ontario Hockey League player to be granted such an exception, after John Tavares in 2005 and Aaron Ekblad in 2011.
