Alfred Schwarzmann

Karl-Alfred Schwarzmann, known as Alfred Schwarzmann, was a German Olympic gymnast who lived from 22 March 1912 to 11 March 2000. He won three gold medals and two bronze medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and added a silver medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics, which places his Olympic career across the war years that separated those two Games. During World War II he served in the Wehrmacht and received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross of Nazi Germany, a wartime decoration that is part of his documented biography alongside his sporting record. His medal haul from a single Games, followed by a return to the podium sixteen years later, makes him one of the notable German gymnasts of the twentieth century.
