Alexander Georgiev is a Russian international draughts grandmaster who won the World Championship in international draughts nine times, in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2011, twice in 2013, twice in 2015 and again in 2019. He reached the number one world ranking in July 2003 with a personal rating of 2472, and also won the Russian national championship thirteen times over his career. Georgiev finished as runner up at the 2018 World Championship in Frisian draughts, a regional variant of the game, showing versatility beyond the international rules discipline in which he built his main reputation. He was awarded the grandmaster title in 1996 and has competed for clubs in both Russia and the Netherlands.
