Ahmed Hassan (footballer, born 1975)

Ahmed Hassan is an Egyptian former professional footballer, born on 2 May 1975, who played as an attacking midfielder or on the right wing. He started as a right-back at Aswan Club in the lower Egyptian divisions, moved to Ismaily, and after the 1998 Africa Cup of Nations went abroad to Turkey, where he played for Kocaelispor, Denizlispor, Gençlerbirliği and Beşiktaş. He then joined Anderlecht in Belgium before returning to Egypt to finish his career with Al Ahly and Zamalek. For the Egypt national team he made 184 appearances, which makes him the eighth-most capped international male footballer in history. He played in eight Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and won the title four times, in 1998, 2006, 2008 and 2010, and he is regarded as one of the best players in African football history.
