Gregory Merson, born on 8 December 1987, is an American professional poker player best known as the winner of the Main Event at the 2012 World Series of Poker. In the same year he also won a World Series of Poker bracelet in the 10,000 dollar Six Handed No-Limit Hold'em World Championship. Largely because of those two championships he was named the 2012 World Series of Poker Player of the Year. Beyond the live tournament circuit, he is an online shorthanded cash game professional, so his reputation combines a single remarkable summer of tournament results with a career spent mainly in online cash games, as the lead of the source describes it.
