Otto Herschmann was an Austrian Jewish swimmer, fencer, lawyer and sports official, born on 4 January 1877 and murdered by the Nazis on 17 June 1942 during the Holocaust. He is one of only a few athletes to have won Olympic medals in two different sports, taking a silver medal in swimming at the 1896 Games and a silver medal in fencing at the 1912 Games. Away from competition he practised as a lawyer and served as president of both the Austrian Olympic Committee and the Austrian Swimming Federation.
