Lacrosse is a stick-and-ball team sport in which players use a long-handled stick with a webbed pocket to catch, carry and pass a ball with the aim of shooting it into an opposing goal. The sport originated among Indigenous peoples of North America, who played early forms of the game for centuries before French colonists documented and later adapted it into an organized amateur sport in the 19th century. It is governed internationally by World Lacrosse and, after appearing at the Olympics in the early 20th century, is set to return to the Olympic program at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
