Horse racing is an equestrian sport in which horses ridden by jockeys race over a set distance, most commonly on a flat track or over jumps in steeplechase and hurdle racing. Its most prestigious flat races, such as the Kentucky Derby, the Epsom Derby and the Melbourne Cup, draw international attention, and the sport is governed nationally by jockey clubs and racing authorities worldwide.
