Gaelic and Australian Codes

The two football codes with their roots in Ireland and Australia, each played with a round or oval ball that may be carried, bounced, kicked and passed by hand over a large field with goalposts. Gaelic football is run by the Gaelic Athletic Association, and Australian rules football is played on a wide oval, each scoring through kicks between uprights. Every sport filed in this group belongs to the Football Codes category and has its own entry in the Sport and Games Atlas, from which a reader can follow links on to its leading athletes, its competitions and the governing bodies that set its rules.
