A-League Men

Professional Leagues

The A-League Men is the top professional association football league in Australia and New Zealand and the highest level of the Australian soccer league system. It was established in 2004 as the A-League by the Australian Soccer Association as the successor to the National Soccer League, and competition began in August 2005. It is administered by Australian Professional Leagues and contested by twelve teams, ten based in Australia and two in New Zealand. Seasons run from October to May, with a 27-round regular season followed by a finals series for the six highest-placed teams that ends in a grand final. The regular season winner is called the Premier and the grand final winner the Champion. The league has no promotion or relegation and uses a salary cap, and the best clubs qualify for the AFC Champions League Elite and AFC Champions League Two, a competition won by the Western Sydney Wanderers in 2014.
