The Chinese Olympic Committee is the National Olympic Committee for the People's Republic of China, originally founded in 1910 and reconstituted after the People's Republic gained International Olympic Committee recognition in 1979 following a period of non-participation, headquartered in Beijing. It selects and fields China's Olympic team, oversaw the organization of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, making Beijing the first city to host both, and has presided over a rapid rise in China's Olympic medal standing since the 1980s.

Why do histories of the Chinese Olympic Committee give both 1910 and 1979?
The first committee dates to 1910 and the current one was recognized by the IOC in 1979.
The two dates mark two different stages. The first Chinese Olympic Committee was formed in 1910 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1922. The current National Olympic Committee, based in the People's Republic of China, was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1979, after the long dispute over which committee represented China.
