FAQs

Did India compete at the Olympics before its Olympic committee existed?

India competed from 1920 but its Olympic committee was formed only in 1927.

Yes. According to Olympedia, India's Olympic appearances run from 1920, although India's National Olympic Committee was not formed until 1927. India has competed at every Olympic Games since 1920, so its first Games as a nation came seven years before the Indian Olympic Association was created.
