The Masters Tournament, usually called simply the Masters, or the U.S. Masters outside North America, is one of the four men's major championships in professional golf. It is scheduled for the first full week in April, making it the first major of the year, and unlike the other majors, which change venue every year, it is always played at Augusta National Golf Club, a private course in Augusta, Georgia. Amateur champion Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts founded it, and it was first played in 1934 as the Augusta National Invitation Tournament. It is an invitational event, so its field is smaller than those of the other majors. Its traditions include the green jacket awarded to the champion since 1949, the Champions Dinner begun by Ben Hogan in 1952, an honorary tee shot on the first morning and the Par 3 contest on the Wednesday. Jack Nicklaus holds the record with six wins, ahead of Tiger Woods with five.
