The major championships of professional golf, the oldest and most prestigious tournaments in the sport, which together decide how a player's career is judged. The men's majors are the Masters Tournament, played each spring at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open and The Open Championship, the oldest of them all, played in Britain and Ireland. Belongs here: the four men's major championships and any other tournament that the sport formally recognizes as a major. Does not belong here: ordinary tour events, team contests such as the Ryder Cup, which fall under Bilateral and Challenge Series, and multi-sport games in which golf appears as one discipline among many.
