Wii Music
Music video game
Wii Music is a music video game developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo for the Wii console, released in 2008. Players create arrangements of existing songs by controlling an on-screen band, choosing from a range of virtual instruments and using motion controls with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to mimic playing techniques such as strumming a guitar or striking drums. Unlike rhythm games such as Guitar Hero or Rock Band, Wii Music does not score player performance, instead encouraging free experimentation with the songs. The game launched in Japan on October 16, 2008, followed by North America four days later and Europe and Australia in November 2008. It belongs to Nintendo's Touch! Generations line aimed at casual and family audiences. Reception was mixed, with critics praising its creative concept but criticizing the imprecision of its motion controls and its largely public-domain soundtrack; it nonetheless sold 2.65 million copies worldwide by March 2009.
