Weiß Schwarz is a Japanese collectible card game created by the publisher Bushiroad and launched in March 2008. Its name is German for white and black, and the game is divided into a Weiß side and a Schwarz side. Its main attraction is that different expansions carry cards from different licensed properties, mostly manga and anime series, so players build decks around characters they already know. It is designed for two players, and an average game lasts about ten to fifteen minutes. Each player builds a fifty card deck, and the central contest is a character battle combined with a clock and level system that both limits what can be played and acts as a life total: the player forced up to level four loses. The game received an English release in 2013, and trade coverage in 2010 described it as hugely popular, with hundreds of millions of cards printed in its first few years.
