We Tell Stories

Interactive fiction project

We Tell Stories is an interactive storytelling project created by the game studio Six to Start in conjunction with the publisher Penguin, launched in March 2008. Over six weeks, six different authors each contributed a story reimagining a classic work of literature, from writers including John Buchan, Charles Dickens and Hans Christian Andersen, with one new story released online per week. Each installment used a different digital format to tell its story, including an interactive Google Map, a social media driven narrative, a choose your own adventure structure and a story that unfolded through real time typing on the screen, so that the form of each week's story mirrored its content. The project drew nearly fifty thousand unique visitors in its first week alone and went on to win both the experimentation category and Best of Show at the 2009 South by Southwest Web Awards.
