Trente et quarante, meaning thirty and forty and also called rouge et noir or red and black, is a gambling card game of French origin dating from the 17th century. It is played with cards and a special table. It is rarely found in casinos in the United States but remains very popular in continental European casinos, especially in France, Italy and Monaco. The game is simple, and it usually gives players a very good expected return of more than 98 percent, which is high compared with most casino games.
