Top Secret (role-playing game)

Role-Playing Games

Top Secret is an espionage-themed tabletop role-playing game written by Merle M. Rasmussen and first published in 1980 by TSR, Inc. The original boxed set held a 64-page rule book and a sample adventure, and it let players and gamemasters build their own spy story settings. The system rests entirely on ten-sided dice, with percentile attributes and Areas of Knowledge that work much like skills. Characters belong to an Assassination, Confiscation or Investigation bureau within an unspecified espionage agency, though any character may be sent on any kind of mission. The game also introduced Fame and Fortune points, described in the source as the first mechanics players could use to alter game results. An expansion, The Top Secret Companion, added classes, missions and a revised combat system.
