The tiger game, called laohu qi in Chinese, is a traditional Chinese strategy board game for two players of the asymmetric hunt type. One player controls a single piece, the tiger, while the other has eighteen men. The board is a grid of eight by eight squares with a central two by two square called the tiger's lair, and any distinguishable pieces will do. The men cannot capture the tiger and can only trap it so it cannot move, working in pairs, while the tiger captures a man by jumping over it. A tiger that eats more than three men is unlikely to be beaten, and the men are likely to win if they advance cautiously. Related games include Two Tigers Chess and Three Tigers Chess.
