This Is My Milwaukee is an alternate reality game created by the art collective Synydyne, set in a fictionalized version of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Its narrative centers on the sinister Blackstar company, which secretly bioengineered a creature called Go.D.S.E.E.D. that was forced underground into dormancy, an event the story uses to explain why the city of Milwaukee was placed under quarantine. Players followed the unfolding story chiefly through a website that displayed a countdown timer set to expire on January 16, 2009, and they extended the game into the physical world through dead drops, hidden caches of material left at real locations including the New York Public Library and a San Francisco cafe, a technique characteristic of immersive alternate reality games that mix online storytelling with offline participation.
