The Omega War

Modern Conquest and War Games

The Omega War is a two-player, science fiction themed board wargame published by TSR through its subsidiary Simulations Publications, Inc. (SPI) in 1983, designed by David James Ritchie. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, it pits a faction called the Rebels against a faction called the Union in a conflict fought with counters and maps typical of SPI's hex-and-counter wargame line. Like several SPI titles of its era, the game first appeared as a pull-out insert in issue 14 of the magazine Ares in spring 1983, a distribution method that let subscribers receive a complete playable game bound into the periodical, before the same title was issued afterward as a standalone boxed set for wider retail sale. The game reflects the broader trend in early-1980s wargaming toward speculative and science-fiction settings alongside the hobby's traditional historical subjects.
