The Kids of Catan
Children's board game
The Kids of Catan is a German board game designed for children, using the theme and setting of The Settlers of Catan. It was created by Klaus Teuber, the designer of the parent game, and published by Kosmos in German and by Mayfair Games for English-language editions. Up to four players take the roles of children helping their parents, who work as a brickmaker, a woodcutter and a farmer, establish Catan's first settlement. Play takes place on a turntable divided into sixteen sections: fifteen resource spaces, five each of three goods, plus one robber space. Players roll dice to move a wagon around the turntable, collecting resources as they pass, and when a wagon holds three matching resources the player places a building on the board. An antagonistic older sibling occasionally steals goods to slow the other players down. The game is won by the first player to build the green city hall, which can only be built after all twelve red buildings already stand on the board, so the design rewards steady collection over risky shortcuts.
