The Golden Horde (board game)

Modern Conquest and War Games

The Golden Horde is a two player board wargame published by Excalibre Games in 1978, designed by Dennis O'Leary and R.J. Hlavnicka with artwork by R.P. Winther. It simulates the Mongol conquests of Asia and Europe during the first half of the thirteenth century, with one player commanding the Mongol armies and the other controlling a coalition of Eastern European and Asian defending forces across a map stretching from Scandinavia to Vietnam. The game ships with 210 die cut counters, a twenty two by twelve inch paper map, a rulebook and an errata sheet. Play uses optional rather than compulsory zones of control and terrain based combat modifiers with stacking limits; the Mongol player wins by destroying enough Allied homelands, while the Allied side wins if the Mongol army is wiped out first.
