Tempeln, also known as Meine Tante, Deine Tante, is a simple historical German gambling card game played with French or German suited playing cards. A related 32 card version goes by several further names, including Naschi Waschi, German Pharaoh, Stoss and Sussmilch. The game belongs to a family of banking card games in which one player, the banker, deals against the rest of the table, and it is markedly simpler than better known relatives such as Basset and Faro, stripping away their more elaborate betting structures and side wagers in favor of a plain, fast moving contest between the banker and the other players. Tempeln can be played with a 32 card Piquet or Skat pack, or with a full 52 card pack, and its close relatives in the wider banking game family include Basset, Faro and Lansquenet, all games in which the thrill lies in wagering on which cards the banker will turn up rather than in any deep strategic play by the other participants.
