Tannhauser is a 2007 tactical miniatures board wargame originally published in French by the company Take On You, set in an alternate-history conflict between rival factions. Players command elite squads of characters, choosing either team play with two players each fielding a squad, or a looser multiplayer format with up to ten participants each controlling a single character. A typical game runs one to two hours and uses a double-sided board depicting a castle interior and a crypt, together with pre-painted plastic miniatures, character cards, dice and cardboard tokens. The base game introduced two factions, the Reich and the Union, each drawn into a struggle to shift the balance of power between warring nations. Fantasy Flight Games took over English-language distribution after the original release and later acquired full rights to the property, continuing to support it with further expansions and additional factions beyond the initial two.
