Superpower (board game)
Political board game
Superpower, subtitled The Game of Global Exploitation, is a board game released by Games Workshop in 1986 and designed by E. Bruce Hollands and Daniel R. McGregor. It casts up to six players as rival superpowers competing for influence during the Cold War, with a typical game lasting ninety minutes to two hours. Each player takes a colored token and draws cards representing world opinion, third world countries and invasions, then moves along a path on a board depicting a stylized world map divided into four regions. Players work to control third world countries and manage world opinion in their favor, using propaganda to sway opinion and destabilizing rival aligned nations through coups, military actions and invasions. Every hostile action costs the acting player world opinion points, tracked in a system modeled on United Nations style diplomacy, so a player who intervenes too aggressively risks losing the very influence the game rewards.
