Summoner Wars is an expandable tactical card game designed by Colby Dauch and published by Plaid Hat Games in 2009, the first title released by the company Dauch founded that same year. Two to four players each command a faction led by a summoner, deploying units from their hand onto a grid battlefield printed on the shared game board. Combat is resolved with dice rolls rather than pure card comparison, and movement across the grid determines which units can reach and attack the opposing summoner. A game typically lasts thirty to sixty minutes and is recommended for players aged nine and up. Summoner Wars established Plaid Hat Games as a publisher and was followed by numerous faction expansion decks, each adding new summoners, units and abilities that let players build increasingly varied army compositions within the same core grid based combat system.
