Streets of Stalingrad

Board wargame

Streets of Stalingrad is a board wargame designed by Dana Lombardy and published by Phoenix Games in 1979. The game reconstructs the close quarters urban combat that took place during the Battle of Stalingrad in the Second World War, when German and Soviet forces fought building by building through the ruined city. One player commands the German attackers and the other commands the Soviet defenders, moving units across two large hexagonal maps that represent the shattered streets and factory districts of the city. The design includes twelve separate scenarios covering different stages and sectors of the fighting, letting players refight specific actions rather than the whole battle at once. Its scale sits at the tactical, platoon level, so the rules focus on small unit maneuver and close combat rather than the broader operational movement of army groups, giving players a detailed picture of the kind of house to house fighting that made Stalingrad one of the war's most costly engagements.
