Spellfire
Collectible card game
Spellfire, published under the full title Spellfire: Master the Magic, was a collectible card game created by TSR, Inc. and released in June 1994, making it the second collectible card game to reach the market after Magic: The Gathering debuted the previous year. The game drew its setting and characters from TSR's Dungeons and Dragons license, pulling cards from several established campaign settings including the Forgotten Realms, Dark Sun and Greyhawk. It was designed by Steve Winter, Jim Ward, Dave Cook and Tim Brown, and over its run it received more than a dozen expansion sets before TSR released its final expansion in October 1997 and discontinued the line. Players built decks around realm cards that formed the board of play, then deployed champions and cast magical cards drawn from their Dungeons and Dragons setting of choice to defeat opponents' characters and seize control of the game. Unlike some collectible card games of its era, Spellfire was built to support any number of players at the table without requiring special rule changes, making it playable in both head-to-head duels and larger multiplayer sessions. The game is now out of print.
