Solo 66

Trick-Taking Card Games

Solo 66 is a trick-taking ace-ten card game for five players in which a soloist always plays alone against the other four. It builds on the rules of Skat, is played with a French-suited 32-card deck, and has players bid for the trump suit before play begins. Jacks stay within their own suit rather than forming a separate trump rank, a feature that sets Solo 66 apart from straightforward Skat and keeps the bidding and trick evaluation close to that parent game's logic. The soloist wins by taking more than half of the 130 available card points in tricks, meaning a minimum of 66 points, which gives the game its name. Card values follow Skat convention: aces count 11, tens count 10, kings 4, queens 3, jacks 2, and the lowest cards are worthless in the count, with an extra 10 points awarded for winning the final trick of the hand. The game is designed for players aged 15 and up and is regarded as a game of low chance and high skill, rewarding careful hand evaluation and counting over luck. Variants exist for four or fewer players, extending the game's practical table size beyond its standard five-player form.
