Solarquest

Strategy board game

Solarquest is a space-themed real estate trading board game designed by Valen Brost, who conceived the idea in 1976 and published it in 1985 through his own Valen Brost Game Company before Golden and Western Publishing issued a further printing in 1987. The design deliberately follows the shape of Monopoly, but rocket ships replace tokens, fuel stations replace hotels, and players travel a track that loops around the Sun rather than a city block. Two to six players buy up planets, moons and constructed space structures to build monopolies, aiming to force opponents into bankruptcy while also managing optional hazards such as dwindling fuel supplies and laser attacks between players. A full game commonly runs from one to three hours, and the design calls on basic percentage and multiplication skills alongside negotiation and longer-range strategy.
