Shisima is a two-player abstract strategy game from Kenya, played on an octagonal board with nine intersection points connected by marked lines. Its name comes from a Kenyan word meaning body of water, and its pieces, called imbalavali or water bugs, are named for the way they skim quickly from point to point across the board. Each player begins with three pieces placed at fixed starting positions before play begins, then alternates moving a single piece to an adjacent empty point along a line. A player wins by arranging their three pieces in a row along one of the board's diagonal lines. Shisima is related in structure to tic-tac-toe and to three men's morris, though its octagonal board and connecting lines give it a distinct shape from either game.
