Sequence is a board and card hybrid game invented by Douglas Reuter, who originally called it Sequence Five, in which players and teams build rows of five playing chips on a board printed with a repeating pattern of the standard fifty-two card deck. On a turn a player plays a card from their hand and places a chip on a matching space, or uses a jack to place or remove a chip depending on its suit color, working toward forming an unbroken line of five chips horizontally, vertically or diagonally. In a two-player or two-team game a side must complete two such sequences to win, while a three-player or three-team game requires only one, giving the format flexible team sizes. The Sequence brand passed through several owners over the decades and Goliath Games acquired full licensing rights to it in 2018.
