Scythe (board game)

Board game

Scythe is a strategy board game designed by Jamey Stegmaier and published by Stonemaier Games in 2016. It is set in an alternate-history 1920s Eastern Europa following a great war, where five asymmetric factions, each led by a unique character and accompanied by a large mech unit, compete to expand their territory, build structures, and accumulate resources and popularity. Players manage workers, animals, and combat units on a shared hex map while pursuing a hidden faction-specific objective alongside public scoring conditions. The game combines area control with an engine-building economy and deliberately limits direct player elimination, ending when one player completes six of their faction's stars. Scythe drew wide attention for its painted artwork by Jakub Rozalski, its modular player mats granting different starting resources and abilities, and its optional companion app that automates bookkeeping.
