Scotland Yard (board game)

Scotland Yard is an asymmetric cooperative board game first published in 1983 by Ravensburger in Europe and Canada and by Milton Bradley in the United States, for three to six players on a map of central London. One player secretly controls the fugitive Mr. X, whose location is revealed only at set intervals during the game, while the remaining players each control one or more detectives who are always visible on the board and must cooperate to work out Mr. X's likely route and corner him before time runs out. Movement uses taxi, bus and underground tickets that Mr. X must spend and periodically reveal, letting the detectives narrow down his location through logic and shared reasoning. The game won the Spiel des Jahres, Germany's Game of the Year award, in 1983, the year of its release, and remains a well-known example of hidden-movement pursuit gameplay.
