Russian Schnapsen

Russian Schnapsen, also called Thousand Schnapsen, 1000 or Tysiacha, is a trick-taking card game of the ace-ten family, most commonly played by three players, in which the goal is to be the first to score more than 1000 points over a series of hands. It is a Russian variant of the older Austrian game Schnapsen, and like its parent game it features marriages, meaning a king and queen of the same suit held by one player, which score bonus points when declared during play. Bidding plays a central role: before each hand, players compete to name the highest number of points they believe they can score with a particular suit as trumps, and the winning bidder must then meet or exceed that declared total during the hand or lose the equivalent number of points, giving the game a push-your-luck bidding layer on top of its trick-taking core.
