Rummoli

Rummoli is a Canadian card game for two to eight players, first marketed in 1940 by the Copp Clark Publishing Company of Toronto. Play requires a specially printed Rummoli board divided into betting spaces, a standard fifty-two card deck with no jokers, and chips or coins used as stakes, typically for modest amounts. Rummoli belongs to the Stops group of matching card games, descending from the German game Poch and sharing lineage with the French Nain Jaune, the Victorian game Pope Joan, and the American game Tripoley, also known as Michigan rummy, which had debuted in Chicago eight years earlier in 1932. During play, cards are placed onto the board's spaces to collect the pot staked there, and players race to be first to empty their hand. Rummoli remains a familiar family and holiday card game across Canada, valued for combining simple card-matching mechanics with a light betting element that keeps every player involved until the hand ends.
