Rubik's Snake, also called Rubik's Twist, is a mechanical puzzle toy invented by Erno Rubik, the same Hungarian designer behind the Rubik's Cube, and introduced in 1981. It consists of 24 wedge-shaped pieces, each a right isosceles triangular prism, joined end to end by spring-loaded bolts so that they can be twisted at each joint but never pulled apart. By folding and twisting the chain of wedges through its many possible configurations, a player can reshape the toy into a wide range of recognizable forms, from balls and rings to animals and abstract geometric shapes, making manipulation and dexterity rather than competition the core of its play.
