Rome at War series

The Rome at War series is a line of board wargames published by Avalanche Press covering ancient land combat, begun in 2000 with the release of Hannibal at Bay. Like many hex and counter wargame series it lets players learn one core rules system and then apply it across multiple standalone titles, each focused on a different campaign or set of battles from the classical world, rather than requiring a separate rules set for every release. Avalanche Press built a reputation during this period for licensing and publishing niche historical wargames covering ancient and classical warfare, a period less commonly served by mainstream wargame publishers than the world wars or the American Civil War, and the Rome at War series became one of its more sustained ancient warfare lines, adding further titles to the system over the years that followed Hannibal at Bay's original release.
