Rapid Racer
Racing video game
Rapid Racer, released in North America as Turbo Prop Racing, is a racing video game developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's Team Soho and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation. The game launched in Europe on October 1, 1997 and in North America and Japan on July 15, 1998. Players pilot a motorboat around a set of six race tracks, each of which can also be raced in a mirrored layout and, on some tracks, at night, effectively multiplying the available circuits. Progress comes from winning championships and completing bonus rounds, which are unlocked by collecting five yellow icons scattered across a race on tracks spanning two days of in-game time; the rewards earned this way let a player either upgrade an existing boat or unlock a more powerful one, giving the campaign a light equipment-progression structure layered onto straightforward arcade boat racing.
