Rage (trick-taking card game)

Trick-Taking Card Games

Rage is a trick-taking card game for two to six players that was first marketed in 1983 by the American game company Fundex Games. The game builds on the mechanics of the classic trick-taking game Oh Hell, in which players bid in advance on the exact number of tricks they expect to win during a hand. It is played with a proprietary one hundred and ten card deck made up of six colored suits with values from zero to fifteen, along with fourteen special Rage cards that alter play. Before each hand players bid on how many tricks they think they will win, a face-up card determines the trump suit for the hand, and players then take turns leading and following suit where possible as tricks are played out. A player who wins exactly the number of tricks they bid earns a bonus of ten points plus one further point for every trick taken, while missing the bid forfeits the bonus. The special Rage cards can change or remove the trump suit for a hand or award and subtract bonus points, adding an extra layer of unpredictability on top of the underlying Oh Hell structure.
