Puzzle book

A puzzle book is a type of activity book that collects a set of puzzles for the reader to solve, serving both as entertainment and, particularly for children's editions, as an educational tool. A puzzle book may be built around a single puzzle type, such as crosswords, sudoku, or word searches, or it may mix several different puzzle forms within one volume, and publishers produce editions aimed at readers of every age, from simple picture-based puzzles for young children to demanding logic and word puzzles for adults. The crossword puzzle book is generally credited with establishing the genre in its modern form: the first crossword puzzle book was published in 1924 by editors at the New York World newspaper, and its commercial success helped popularize both the crossword itself and the puzzle book as a recognizable publishing category. Since then puzzle books have become a durable segment of popular publishing, sold in bookstores, newsstands, and supermarkets as an inexpensive, self-contained form of recreation that a reader can pick up and set down at will.
