President (card game)

President, also called by names such as Asshole, Scum and Capitalism, is a shedding card game for three or more players, played with a standard deck and often multiple decks when more than eight people take part. Players race to get rid of every card in their hand as quickly as possible, since the order in which players finish determines their rank for the next round, from president down through lesser titles to the lowest ranked player. Cards are played in ascending sequences of matching rank, and players who cannot or choose not to beat the previous play must pass, with a full round of passes clearing the pile for a fresh lead. The reigning president in many versions can trade cards with the lowest ranked player before a new round starts, reinforcing the hierarchy the game's alternate names satirize. Countless regional rule variants exist, but the shared goal in every version is to play all of one's cards before anyone else.
