Pixel is an abstract strategy board game for two to four players, played on an eight-by-eight grid with its four corner spaces removed and manipulated using horizontal and vertical sliders. Players begin by placing a single stone each at the center of the board, then take turns moving one of the two sliders and placing a stone at the resulting intersection. In two- or three-player games, the first player to align four of their own stones in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row wins outright, and if no one manages that, the player who has formed the most three-in-a-row lines wins instead; the four-player version lowers the winning line to three stones, with ties broken by counting two-in-a-row lines. The sliding-grid mechanism gives Pixel a shifting board unusual among connection games, and the design was recognized with the 2008 Mensa Select award, given annually to a small number of games judged especially original and intellectually engaging.
