Pictures is a designer board game created by Daniela and Christian Stohr and first published in 2019, in which three to five players race to recreate a shown reference image using an unusual assortment of everyday and abstract components rather than drawing tools. Each round presents players with a target picture, an artsy or evocative photograph, and a limited set of odd physical items, string, wooden blocks, small figures, torn paper, and similar objects, that they must arrange to visually evoke the image as closely as possible within a short time limit. Other players then guess or compare interpretations, rewarding creative, lateral thinking over artistic skill. The game's inventive component-based art challenge won it the Spiel des Jahres, the German board game of the year award, in 2020, cementing its reputation as a standout party and creativity game.
