Alignment and Abstract Strategy Games

GIPF is a strategy game for two players, designed by Kris Burm and published by Don and Co. in 1997. The players take turns introducing one piece each into play on the board, aiming to form a row of four of their own pieces. When a row of four is made, its owner removes it from the board and also captures any opposing pieces that extend that row. Capturing pieces in this way creates, each time again, completely changed situations on the board. The aim is to go on forming rows of at least four pieces until the opponent has no pieces left to bring into play. The game is based on the classic four-in-a-row concept and combines classic systems with completely new elements. GIPF is also the name of a project as well as of this single game.
